Once, Guru Gobind Singh Ji was seated at Anandpur Sahib when his daughter approached him. She asked what should be prepared for the langar that day. Guru Ji instructed her to make rice but to feed it to the deer. The rice was prepared and served to the deer, who ate it peacefully and left.
The next day, Guru Ji again asked for rice to be made, but this time, he directed that it be fed to the dogs. When the rice was offered to the dogs, chaos ensued. One dog began eating, another grabbed its leg, and a third bit its tail. They fought among themselves, spoiling all the rice, and left without eating anything.
After this incident, Guru Ji explained the lesson to the Sikhs. He said that living in peace and unity, like the deer, brings prosperity and happiness. However, constant fighting and quarreling lead to nothing but loss and chaos. Through this teaching, Guru Ji emphasized the importance of harmony and unity as the foundation for a successful and fulfilling life. This lesson continues to inspire Sikhs to live together in peace and cooperation.
