Nestled in the village of Daroli (Bhatpur) near Anandpur Sahib, Gurdwara Kusht Niwaran Sahib stands as a living testament to Guru Hargobind Sahib Ji’s divine compassion—a place where miracles of healing and devotion intertwine.
A Divine Settlement (1616 AD)
In 1673 Bikrami (1616 CE), Guru Hargobind Sahib Ji purchased land from Raja Tara Chand of Kahlur to establish a spiritual hub. While directing his son Baba Gurditta Ji to settle Kiratpur Sahib, Guru Ji blessed this land with his presence, filling it with kirtan, wisdom, and transformative energy.
The Miracle That Named the Gurdwara
Before departing, Guru Ji asked the Sangat if they desired any blessings. Bhai Bharta Ji, a devotee suffering from leprosy (a then-incurable disease), humbly requested:
- “Maharaj, free my family and me from this affliction.”
Guru Ji’s response was profound: - “From today, you shall be healed. But remember this blessing—let no meat or fish touch your lips.”

The Result:
- Bhai Bharta Ji’s leprosy vanished instantly.
- His descendants, honoring Guru’s command, remain vegetarian to this day.
- The site became known as “Kusht Niwaran” (Eradicator of Leprosy).
Why This Gurdwara Matters Today
- Faith Over Fear: Proves that divine grace can overcome even the most dreaded illnesses.
- Living Legacy: Bhai Bharta Ji’s descendants uphold their vow, showing gratitude transcends generations.
- Spiritual Healing: Pilgrims visit seeking physical relief but leave with renewed faith.
“Guru’s word cured leprosy then—today, it cures the leprosy of doubt.”
Dhan Guru Hargobind Sahib Ji! 🙏
