The History of Gurdwara Adisar Sahib

Gurdwara Adisar Sahib is located in the village of Tola Handiaya, near Chung. This sacred site is deeply connected to the ninth Sikh Guru, Sri Guru Tegh Bahadur Sahib Ji. The history of this Gurdwara is tied to a significant event from Guru Ji’s life.

According to historical accounts, when Guru Tegh Bahadur Ji was passing through the village of Handiaya, his horse suddenly stopped at the boundary of the village of Dhaula. This unexpected halt surprised everyone. The villagers asked Guru Ji, “Why has the horse stopped and refuses to move forward?”

Guru Ji calmly replied, “This land has been used for tobacco cultivation, and the foul smell of the crop has caused the horse to stop.” Hearing this, the villagers realized the spiritual significance of Guru Ji’s words and sought his blessings. Inspired by this event, Gurdwara Adisar Sahib was established at this very spot.

Guru Ji also blessed this place, declaring that the wishes of those who visit with a pure heart would be fulfilled here. After spending some time at this sacred spot, Guru Tegh Bahadur Sahib Ji continued his journey to another place, now known as Gurdwara Shri Sohiana Sahib.

The Gurdwara complex includes six rooms equipped with all necessary facilities for visitors. Every year, the martyrdom day of Sri Guru Tegh Bahadur Sahib Ji is observed here with great devotion and reverence. On this occasion, thousands of devotees gather at the Gurdwara to seek spiritual peace and the blessings of the Guru.
