There was a poor Sikh named Bhai Garibu, who desired to have the darshan of Guru Arjan Dev Ji. However, he was poor and had nothing. One day, he found a defective coin at his home and decided to take it with him as an offering to Guru Ji. When he reached the darbar, he saw that gold and silver coins were already placed in front of Guru Ji. Bhai Garibu felt deeply embarrassed about offering his defective coin, so he hid it in his turban and sat at the back of the congregation.
After the diwan (sikh gathering) ended, Guru Ji addressed the sangat, saying, “Today, the offerings are incomplete.” Guru Ji rose from his throne, walked to the back, and asked, “Bhai Sikha, where is your offering?” Upon hearing this, Bhai Garibu’s eyes filled with tears. He took the defective coin from his turban and offered it to Guru Ji. Guru Ji then explained that this coin, although defective, was no less precious than gold or silver, as the true gem of Sikhism lies in sincere love and devotion.
