The Battle for Sri Harmandir Sahib

In 1757, Ahmad Shah Durrani’s general, Jahan Khan, desecrated Sri Harmandir Sahib (Golden Temple) by filling its sacred sarovar with slaughtered animals. Upon hearing this sacrilege, Baba Deep Singh Ji (at Shaheed Takht Sri Damdama Sahib) and Baba Naudh Singh Ji rallied 500 Sikhs to liberate Amritsar. Before departing, Baba Naudh Singh Ji took a solemn vow: “I will rest only after freeing Sri Darbar Sahib.”
