A 10-year-old child, who attended Gurbani daily, once shared a profound insight with Guru Nanak Dev Ji. The child explained that while trying to light a fire, he first placed small pieces of tinder, but they did not catch fire. Next, he added a thicker piece of wood, but the fire still did not ignite. Surprisingly, the smaller pieces he added later caught fire first, and eventually, the thicker wood also began to burn.

Reflecting on this, the child said, “I was surprised to see this. Then it struck me that just like the fire, life is unpredictable. Often, parents who bring children into this world remain alive, while their children pass away first. That day, I realized that life’s journey must be completed before death arrives. This is why I now wake up early every morning to listen to Gurbani and connect with the Divine.”
Moved by the child’s wisdom and devotion, Guru Nanak Dev Ji blessed him. This simple yet profound story teaches us the importance of living a purposeful life and staying connected to spirituality, as death can come unexpectedly. The child’s realization reminds us to cherish every moment and prioritize our spiritual journey while we can.
